No, not you, Bill. The other Bill. No, not that one either. Well, let me explain.
Last week, I was getting into bed when I felt a weird bump on my chest that I'd never felt before. It felt like part of the sternum bone, located right in the center of my chest above the nipple line. (heh...I said nipple) I asked Jen to feel it and she just said it was probably nothing. Of course, I obsessed. Have I mentioned that I sometimes obsess? So now you know.
I made a doctor's appointment and went on Monday. According to my doctor, I experienced some trauma in my chest sometime in my life in the portion of the sternum just below the jugular notch and the manubrium called the "angle", also known as the sternomanubrial joint. I looked in an anatomy book. Obsessed? Nah!
Basically, the sternum (located just below the jugular notch in the center of the chest) is constructed of three bones: the manubrium, the body and the xiphoid process. Between the manubrium and the body is the angle (I don't like that other longer word). It would seem that I was...bumped there once a little too hard. Now, that bone has decided to protect itself by growing. Out. It's not terribly noticable, but it's mine.
Will it reshape itself back to a nice neat flat sternum? Nope. According to the doctor, I'll have this little fella for life. So, I decided to name my bump. It's name is Bill.
Everyone, meet Bill.
